Why is it so hard for us to express our feelings? And if giving voice to our feelings comes easy, how often do we do it with the intention of making life joyful for everyone involved?
We have been conditioned by society and family to address feelings with “amnesia” or “anaesthesia.” Forget about them or suppress them. Neither really works. The rising isolation, crime, war, and personal and societal breakdowns are a testament to this tragedy.
We MUST learn how to express our feelings and acknowledge our needs. Our feelings and needs are what connect us – they are universal. They are the foundation of our shared humanity, reminders that we all suffer, we all try our best, and we all yearn for a more caring and compassionate world.
Learning Nonviolent Communication (NVC) has been one of the best gifts I’ve given myself in 2022. It truly is the “language of life” as Marshall Rosenberg, the founder of The Center for Nonviolent Communication calls it. I suggest you check out his many videos up on YouTube to get an idea of what NVC is and begin to practice it for your own growth and the collective growth and joy of others in your family, work and community.
Einstein said, “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.”
However much we change things externally, no change is sustainable unless accompanied by inner transformation.
NVC is one method that allows us to expand our consciousness, and move from “Me” to “We.” And in the process, we learn to empathically listen, compassionately receive, generously give, and engage in life in a joyous collaborative dance.
Every week, we get together to meditate or discuss a theme to support our inner growth. Join us for the online Inner Work sessions conducted every Friday at 6 PM IST. Offered in giftism, the sessions are open to all. To join, click/tap here.
