Non-Roasted Flax Seed Bliss Balls


Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Non-roasted flax seeds (ground into a fine powder)
  • 1/2 cup Dates (pulsed into a sticky paste)
  • ¼ cup Pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup Sunflower seeds
  • 2 tbsp Sesame seeds (roasted separately)
  • ½ tsp Cardamom powder
  • For the cacao variation:
  • 3 tbsp Cacao powder
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • ¼ cup Raisins
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon powder

Instructions:

Preparation:

  1. Grind non-roasted flax seeds into a fine powder using a blender or food processor.
  2. Pulse dates in a mixer/grinder until they form a sticky paste consistency.

Seed Preparation:

  1. Lightly roast pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds in a pan until you hear a spluttering sound, then remove from heat. Crush them using a mortar and pestle until broken into smaller pieces.
  2. Roast sesame seeds in a separate pan until they turn slightly golden. Set aside.

Making the Bliss Balls:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine half of the ground flax seed powder with the date paste. Add the cardamom powder and mix thoroughly.
  2. Incorporate the crushed pumpkin and sunflower seeds into the mixture. Combine until evenly distributed.
  3. Take portions of the mixture and roll into medium-sized balls. Coat them by rolling in the roasted sesame seeds. Place the coated balls on a tray or plate.

Second Variation:

  1. In another mixing bowl, combine the remaining flax seed powder and date paste. Add the cacao powder, orange zest, raisins, and cinnamon powder. Mix until well combined.
  2. Roll portions of this cacao-flavored mixture into medium-sized balls. For an extra touch, you may optionally coat these balls with additional cacao powder.

Serve immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to one week. Enjoy these nutritious and flavorful bliss balls as a delightful snack!
