Taking therapy - weakness or strength | Poshak Life blog

Many people immediately reject the idea of therapy, counselling or coaching because they have some stories around them and I want to address one of them today.

“Taking therapy is a sign of weakness.”

I don’t agree with that at all. Saying yes to psychotherapy is a sign of great strength.

When you acknowledge that you are stuck somewhere in life, that you are not where you want to be, that acknowledgement itself takes a lot of courage and honesty with yourself.

When you see that you are unable to resolve an issue with the resources you have and that you are repeating the same behaviour and getting the same outcome; you just feel stuck. Accepting that also takes maturity. And acceptance is not something that comes easily to anyone. So that’s a great sign of strength.

And the third is that instead of choosing to stay stuck in that situation and be unhappy about it, you have taken a positive action to improve your life. By receiving help from a skilled person.

All of these are signs of strength, maturity and wisdom. The action indicates a commitment to your growth, your development as a whole person, and a wish to experience life richly.

I think that’s a wonderful spirit to move forward in life. How can that be a weakness?
