Maithili (name changed) came to CE with Saee to reduce excess weight.
She had been on a diet of egg whites for some time that helped her lose weight but was stuck at a threshold. But that wasn’t all the diet did to her.
Maithili’s Story
The “egg white” diet, apparently, is very popular in Jaipur, Maithili’s hometown. She had been a religious follower for one and a half years.
Her diet regime involved consuming egg whites 7-8 times a day, in different forms, combined with snacking on peanut butter or almond milk (or mylk, as it’s better known in the plant-based world).
Maithili’s diet did not include any rich sources of carbohydrates such as rice or roti. Fresh fruits were absent too.
She was overjoyed to lose 10 kgs in the first 6 months of this diet plan and felt greatly motivated to continue it for 6 more months.
In a few months though, Maithili started developing a resistance to the diet. The sight and smell of egg whites made her nauseous.
Her diet plan was then customized to include some sautéed vegetables for variety.
But Maithili’s energy levels were falling rapidly. Eighteen months into the diet, she developed pain in the toe joints. She was diagnosed with early-stage rheumatoid arthritis.
Walking and moving around became painful.
Her blood report also showed imbalanced thyroid levels.
She was drained at the end of the day. She had frequent mood swings and anxiety issues.
Time to Change
Fed up with her deteriorating health and stuck weight, Maithili finally decided to stop the egg white diet.
This is when she contacted Saee and they started the clean eating journey.
Not surprisingly, it took 6 months for Maithili to see any difference on the weighing scale. The body takes time to first heal and repair on the clean eating regime. The abuse from the egg white diet was significant in the body.
But very soon, the joint pains in Maithili’s toes vanished.
Her thyroid levels began to normalize as well.
Happy Ending
Today, Maithili feels confident and in charge of her life. No fad diet will divert her from the ultimate goal of improving her health.
The egg white diet and similar fad diets have one thing in common – they don’t work. In fact, they work against you in the long run.
It is critical to understand that weight loss is always only a bi-product of improvement in health, not a goal in itself.
Enjoy the experience of regaining your health. Weight, if it is in excess as per your body’s chemistry, will reduce naturally.
