“Facing My Emotional Blocks” – this was the theme of the in-person workshop I conducted last Sunday. In the 4-hours of work, participants connected over shared stories and authentic reflections.
Through psychodramatic activities, participants communicated with their strengths and, in the process, found insight into the relationships they felt stuck in.
“I didn’t think that what I’d say when I embodied the strength would be so different from what I thought in my head earlier.” – a sharing of one participant. That is the beauty of psychodrama; it gives a concrete form to the abstract. And when these abstract entities are brought to life through role-taking, the experience becomes somatic, spiritual, and real.
The warm-up activities had enhanced the spontaneity of each group member and enabled group cohesion. The safety of the space allowed them to explore new behaviours and strategies they could apply in old situations. The work made them feel more resourceful and empowered.
A participant shared, “For me, the standout moment was the strong sense of connection and trust that developed within the group. Even though we had just met, there was an atmosphere of openness where everyone could be their authentic self — without any fear of judgement.”
A participant who had never explored her emotions deeply before was stirred in the process. Her issue was explored through a psychodrama play. The group members became part of her story by playing the roles of the stakeholders in her situation, called auxiliaries in psychodrama lingo.
From deep pain, her energy shifted to amusement and clarity. The play helped her disentangle from the emotions that made her feel helpless and look at the situation objectively, from a distance.
As the facilitator, I was moved by the connections that emerged in the group in the short span of 4 hours – there was support, appreciation, empathy, gentleness, and holding. The group became the Healer.
As a participant shared, “Doing it in a group made the experience much more authentic. It wasn’t just a one-on-one conversation. There was a whole group coming together to understand each person’s journey, validate their strengths, witness their struggles, and explore creative solutions. It was deeply healing to realise that I’m not alone in my struggles. Watching others open up, gave me the courage to share my own. The collective energy of the group was incredibly powerful.”
The next in-person workshop is scheduled in August, where we will explore our life stories through fairy tales and mythology. If you’re in Bangalore and would like to join, send me a text on WhatsApp at +91 96326 76341 or email info@poshaklife.com.
The online workshops (for emotional growth and personal development) continue every month as well. The upcoming workshop “From Judgement to Responsibility” is scheduled on 30 July’25, 7-8.30 PM IST. Register if it interests you.
